The Classical Model of Education

New City follows the classical model of education, which is built upon three primary stages of learning known as the Trivium—a time-tested educational framework. We go “with the grain” of a student’s natural development, bringing methods and content which are aligned with those grades’ natural stages of development:

  1. Grammar Stage (K-6th) focuses on learning the foundational facts, rules, and core knowledge of each subject.

  2. Logic Stage (7th-9th) focuses on understanding the relationships between ideas, developing the ability to reason deeply and critically.

  3. Rhetoric Stage (10th-12th) focuses on communicating their foundational knowledge and understanding in a persuasive, clear, and wise way.

Combined, these three tools of learning (Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric) equip students to appreciate truth, goodness, and beauty as they grow in virtue, wisdom, and eloquence.
