Praising God for Generous Givers & About Our Assemblies
FUNDRAISING
We have been diving headfirst into our fundraising efforts. We humbly acknowledge that our greatest need as a school, beyond prayer, is financial. God has provided in many mighty ways. Specifically, through Sacred City Church providing a space for our school to meet. Through a generous donor who kicked us off with a check for $25,000. Through our enrolled families and many great conversations with potential families. To that end, needs remain and we know God will be faithful to provide as we ask. While we continue to raise general funds for salaries and other operating expenses, if you are looking for some specific needs to fill with your gifts, we have some specific asks that we’d like to share:
Curriculum expenses: $6,000
Mobile furnishings for the classrooms (due to the nature of the shared space, we need furnishings that will roll out and/or fold up): $5,000
Office supplies/administrative monthly expenses: $700
School provided uniform pieces (ties): $250
Cash or check donations can be given to either the Arguellos or Sievers families (this is a great option, as it helps us avoid transaction fees).
About Our Assemblies
Could doing the same thing, every morning, for ten minutes make an impression on your student that would last all day or all week or even a lifetime? At New City Classical Academy, our morning assembly will be a crucial, and deeply liturgical, piece of building a culture of truth, goodness, and beauty. At NCCA, we believe there is no better way to start a school day than to gather our student body and faculty together upon arriving to spend a short, purposeful time worshiping and dedicating the day to the Lord. We call this “Morning Assembly”.
This time of corporate worship draws students from diverse backgrounds and experiences together and orients them toward a common purpose and love. It also creates a solid foundation upon which to build a tight community and sweet culture in our schools. This years morning assembly will include the following components:
Scripture reading and exhortation
Catechism from the Westminster Shorter Catechism
Confession of faith from the Apostles Creed (1st semester) and Nicene Creed (2nd semester)
Scripture Recitation - each month the entire student body learns a passage of Scripture together. We believe there is a supernatural beauty to being in the same part of God’s word, at the same time. As we memorize together, students from Kindergarten to 12th grade will be able to recite God’s word to one another, and we believe this will be a beautiful part of student’s relationships.
Singing - we will begin each day we sing a Psalm or hymn of the faith together, making a joyful noise unto the Lord and a sweet song to our ears.
Announcements
As members of a community we are reminded of it often through the things we say and do together, through the beliefs we profess and act upon, we become accountable to one another; we hold each other to a common standard that we have accepted as our own. One doesn’t recite the historical creeds of the faith with his friends each morning and then live like the devil before them the rest of the day. One doesn’t answer catechisms and memorize Scripture and sing Psalms and pray prayers together in community without expecting to be reminded of those things throughout the day. Common confession of a common faith in morning assembly, and then common action upon that faith throughout the day at school becomes the standard we hold each other to as we live our days in community with each other.
Reading Recommendation:
From "The Classical Difference", an article: Raising Kids Who Raise The Bar.
"When we train and educate our kids in an environment where the standards are high and self-discipline is required and hard work is the norm, we are raising future leaders. Future rulers. And better than that, we are raising Christian leaders who will serve and bless those around them.
Leadership in itself is no virtue unless it also means being a follower - a follower of Christ and his Word. Yes, the dilligent rule in a way that brings joy: "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice" (Proverbs 29:2a)
