Reformation Day at NCCA

Yesterday was Reformation Day. We intentionally celebrate Reformation Day at NCCA because we want to remember God’s faithfulness and hold to sound theology. Students learned about the reformation all month long and have memorized the five solas. Classroom parties included printing press and hammer crafts, secondary students burning “pope’s letters”, acting out Martin Luther posting his 95 theses, singing “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” together, and sharing delicious treats and food together.

Martin Luther nailing his 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church (Schlosskirche) in Wittenberg, Germany on October 31, 1517 in combination with the printing press, made it possible for people to begin to read the Bible in German instead of just Latin. This then led to the spreading of God’s Word to many more languages after, giving us many ways to read the Bible today!

At New City Classical Academy, our second through sixth graders will have read through the entirety of the Bible before entering secondary school. This is an intentional for our Bible curriculum sequence and scope due to statistics showing most people struggle to read the Bible all the way through for the first time. We hope this is a first step in our students’ desire to read through the entirety of God’s living and active Word over and over for the rest of their lives.

What are the five solas?

The five solas serve as a summary of the protestant Christian faith. They show the gracious way to salvation in a way that sets the tone for true theology, resounding and how we should think and live in this world.

SOLA SCRIPTURA: Scripture alone

SOLA CHRISTUS: Christian alone

SOLA FIDE: Faith alone

SOLA GRATIA: Grace alone

SOLA DEO GLORIA: To God be the glory alone

Thank you, parents, grandparents, pastors, and teachers for continuing to disciple our children with scripture and grace- to God alone be the glory.
